While we were in the Philadelphia area we had to have a Philly Cheesesteak. Â There are two famous spots to eat them, Pat’s and Geno’s, and they are right across the intersection from each other. Â We chose Geno’s because the line was shorter, it looks fancier, he’s had some crazy political controversy, and we had never had either, so we had to start somewhere!
There are a few options for how to eat your official Philly Steak. Â You can get it “wit” which means with fried onions and the other choice is “whiz” a cheese whiz from a giant can that soaks into the steak. Â You can also get other types of cheese, but the traditional way is “whiz wit.” Â Unlike other places in the country, they do not include grilled peppers or any of the other toppings you might find. Â Simple and tasty!!! Â They also have birch beer, which is a local soda, kind of like root beer. Â After about a 20 minute wait we got our sandwiches and they were AWESOME!!!
